ELLANA - Ewilan Gil' Sayan

Second character of my graduation project: "ELLANA: The pact of the mist-riders". The goal was to create a video-game loosely based on the book "Ellana" by Pierre Bottero.
---------
The story takes place in a fantasy world heavily fragmented into guilds, clans and casts, where magic is common place. Ewilan Gil' Sayan is a young apprentice in the Imaginer's cast. As such, she has the power to project her imagination onto reality. This power - exclusive to this cast - gave them an implicit power within Al-Jeit society.

Hope you enjoy it as much as I enjoyed creating it !

Huge thanks to all my classmates, all the teachers and art consultants that gave me feedback during my two years at New3dge concept art school (Especially Simon Tosovsky, Choro Choi and Nils Carlsten who helped me push this particular project) and Aurélien Fournier for supervising the whole concept art program and the feedback he gave me all throughout the course !

Finally thank you Pierre Bottero for writting the serie of books my project is based off. I absolutely devoured these books when I was younger and they always had a very special place to my heart.

Early explorations. The overall appearance wasn't defined yet and I was exploring around the type of tool she would use to project her imagination.

More explorations. At this stage the idea of using a ring-shaped "imagination projector" was more of less set, but at first I wanted a single big ring. The idea of expanding the importance of the gloves in the design was gradual.

Some head explorations. I really liked the idea of having an almost cult/sect-like kinda feel to the imaginers' cast and I experimented around it quite a bit.

Later iterations. My design slowly shifted from a single big ring and glove to a double glove to a double "glove-ring" idea.
